Business of HYPE: Jeff Staple

On this week’s episode of HYPEBEAST Radio, we caught up with streetwear OG jeffstaple. In a wide-ranging, career-spanning interview, the founder of Staple and Reed Space dives headlong into his origin story: from printing fifty tees a night in the Parsons print lab, to filling his first orders around Soho, the self-proclaimed “double dropout” largely had to learn on the fly. Nowadays though, jeffstaple — born Jeff Ng — wants to share his knowledge with the rising generation of aspiring entrepreneurs. “Now it’s been so many years and now the common thread that I get is, ‘Okay, Jeff! I quit my job—what do I do now?! I printed a T-shirt—what do I do now?!”

“If we all just sort of opened up, we can learn a lot from each other. So that’s what the Business of HYPE is all about.”

In the spirit of this educational initiative, jeffstaple and HYPEBEAST Radio are proud to announce the launch of our second show: The Business of HYPE, hosted by jeffstaple. The show’s first season will encompass 13 episodes, each featuring a long-form interview with an established or up-and-coming mogul in the streetwear sphere. These interviews will focus on the nitty-gritty business details that are so often glossed over in press releases and event recaps. Much like the interview above touches upon lessons learned from setbacks, trials and tribulations, BoH will explore the dirty laundry and maxed-out credit cards that are often behind the success stories we see on Instagram.

“I wanted Business of HYPE to come out because it’s reminiscent of finding out what other people are going through. You’re not alone in this,” says Staple. “Other people are going through the same ups and downs, heartaches, defeats and victories that you are. And I think if we all just sort of opened up, we can learn a lot from each other. So that’s what the Business of HYPE is all about.”
